GEAR UP Massachusetts

The Board of Higher Education directs the Massachusetts GEAR UP program. GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a federally-funded program designed to give more low-income students the skills, encouragement, and preparation needed to pursue postsecondary education and to strengthen academic programs and student services at participating schools. The six-year, $21 million award serves over 6,000 students annually in seven school districts.

For more information, visit the GEAR UP website.

Please note: As of March 10, 2008, the office of the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education
was renamed the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education. The name change will be integrated into
prior existing website content gradually over the next few months.
